Say No to Eliminating Retroactive Medicaid Coverage

Senator Machaela Cavanaugh’s amended priority bill LB 958 is up for a final vote today. LB 958 includes an emergency clause, so if passed the bill will negate the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services application for an 1115 Waiver to eliminate retroactive eligibility entirely, including for the disabled, children, and pregnant women.

The state’s proposal to move to a zero-day retroactive period threatens our hospitals and our most vulnerable neighbors.  Without retroactive coverage, a patient who is eligible for Medicaid but unable to apply the moment they fall ill could be left with crushing debt, and our hospitals will face a massive spike in uncompensated care. We need your help to get this over the finish line.  Send a message to your State Senator and urge them to reject a zero-day retroactive period by supporting LB 958.
