Workplace violence is a known hazard in healthcare and social assistance settings. While the process is not complete, and no permanent standard has yet been issued, the agency’s work to date previews a permanent standard that may be making news sooner rather than later.

Learning Objectives:
1. This presentation will focus on hospitals’ duty to protect patients and employees from on-site violence, which has increased in recent years.
2. Detail OSHA’s recent analysis of a permanent standard on workplace violence prevention in healthcare and social assistance.
3. Provide guidance on what hospitals can do now in anticipation of a new permanent standard on workplace violence prevention in healthcare and social assistance.
