Ostomy Workshop: Building a Foundation on Thursday, April 20
4th Annual Pursuit to Excellence: Wound, Ostomy and Continence Management on Friday, April 21
Target Audience: Nurses and other health care professionals involved in ostomy care.
Learning Objectives:
-Create a discharge plan incorporating strategies for effective ostomy education with patients utilizing resources for a smooth transition between settings or home.
-Devise a care plan when assessing ostomy complications involving poor stoma location, high output, peristomal breakdown, ischemia, retraction, parastomal hernia, prolapse, or other common challenges as derived from case scenarios and role play application.
-Demonstrate detailed ostomy documentation based on your assessment including pouching system, accessories, stoma size, output, stoma and peristomal appearance, and when to refer or notify the surgeon.
-Differentiate types of ostomies during your assessment while considering ostomy appliance selection and other accessories.
