Background:
The National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) is a multidisciplinary organization whose mission is to promote and enhance language access in health care in the United States. Formally established in 1998, NCIHC comprises language access leaders from around the country who work as healthcare interpreters, interpreter service coordinators, language service providers, clinicians, policymakers, advocates, educators, and researchers. In line with its goal of collecting, disseminating, and acting as a clearinghouse on programs and policies to improve language access in health care for limited English proficient (LEP) and deaf individuals, NCIHC sponsors a national dialogue of diverse voices and interests.

NCIHC will host a series of regional language access workshops – “NCIHC On the Road” – throughout 2022-2023. These virtual events will join interpreters, advocates, patients, hospital administrators, and other stakeholders for learning and discussion around building language access infrastructure in areas where public investment and oversight in healthcare interpretation is critical.
